Description
Portrait of a Taipei Neighborhood is a detailed drawing of Tonghua Night Market and the streets around it. This area has been my home for over 10 years and I wanted this drawing to capture all the people and places that have been part of my life, either big or small, over my time here. Fortunately this is a lively area with busy morning and night markets so there was plenty to include! My hope is that many other people who know this area will recognize parts of their own lives within it. They may even recognize themselves!
I spent a long time in the streets here trying to observe and record as much as possible. I also included a huge amount from my own life, from the restaurants I like to eat in to my shopping list at the morning market. Several friends and housemates make appearances as do local animals and unusual vehicles. I wanted to make this as recognizably Taiwan as I could! This was always intended to be a little more lighthearted than some of my other work so if you have a good eye you may spot the shark fin in the Wenchang St River or the billboard with a pirate for the shop that sells pet parrots. You'll find something new each time you look. I drew this over a long enough period I've forgotten some of the earlier stuff I put on, so I find something new each time too!
This drawing is available as a beautiful limited edition canvas or paper print. You have the choice of color or black and white. Limited to a total of 20 large and 20 medium sized prints. This is a premium hand-signed and numbered limited edition print and both options are printed onto archival quality materials.
The large print size is 100 x 65 cm. The canvas print has an extra 5 cm white border for stretching around a wooden frame.
The mid sized print is 75 x 50 cm. The canvas print has an extra 5 cm border for stretching around a wooden frame. This may seem similar to the large size print but it's about 35% smaller!

Framing
Framing and delivery are available for Taiwan-based customers. I use high-quality custom black wooden frames from a framer I've worked with for over ten years. They have framed almost all of my original pieces and every exhibition I've shown in.
For smaller prints I use a clean single-frame design. For larger prints I use a wider, deeper frame profile that suits the scale of larger pieces. See the images for examples.
Framed prints can be collected directly from the frame shop (located near the northern end of Ningxia Night Market, Taipei) or delivered to your door. North Taiwan delivery is NT$400, covering Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Yilan. All other Taiwan locations excluding offshore islands are NT$800.
For international customers, delivery of smaller framed pieces may be possible, please message before ordering to check. Note: delivery of framed pieces to the US is not currently available due to shipping restrictions.
Different framing styles and colors can be arranged on request. If you have something specific in mind, message me and I'll get a quote from the framer. Stretched canvas prints are available too.
