Description
During my time in Taipei I've realized that there's something a bit different about Tianmu. The people who live there seem to become more deeply connected to the place in a way I've only noticed happen with a couple of other districts. I'm frequently contacted by people who, having left the area, want something to help keep that connection alive, or simply remember the great times they've had there. It was in that vein that this piece was commissioned and I'm excited to offer prints of it!
The district is full of dense high rises but it's also nestled between forested hills with large areas of parkland. It was one of the first areas in the city to have an expat population and it's still a popular place for foreigners to live. One of the early buildings from the first wave of expats, the Tianmu White House, features near the center of the drawing. Other recognizable places include the American and Japanese schools, Tianmu Baseball Stadium, Takeshima Department Store, Veterans Hospital, and Tianmu Park.
This map was originally drawn in pencil and took well over 150 hours to create. It's at a close enough scale that you should be able to recognize individual windows. The smaller version makes a great gift and is the perfect size for an alcove. Custom sizing is available too!
Print Details
For unframed prints delivery within Taiwan is included in the price. The print is printed on matte archival 310gms thick fine art paper or a similarly high quality 350gms canvas. It's a beautiful long lasting print which captures the details well.
This is an open edition print but it will be hand-signed for a personal touch. I can also add a small detail, or change something minor. For example I can add in a particular building. Larger changes will be extra.
Framing
Framing and delivery are available for Taiwan-based customers. I use high-quality custom black wooden frames from a framer I've worked with for over ten years. They have framed almost all of my original pieces and every exhibition I've shown in.
For smaller prints (44 x 40) I use a clean single-frame design. For larger prints (79 x 72) I use a wider, deeper frame profile that suits the scale of larger pieces. Example images of both frame styles are included at the end of the listing photos.
An example of a stretched canvas print can also be seen in the images.
Framed prints can be collected directly from the frame shop (located near the northern end of Ningxia Night Market, Taipei) or delivered to your door. North Taiwan delivery is NT$400, covering Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan ,Hsinchu and Yilan. All other Taiwan locations excluding offshore islands are NT$800.
Different framing styles and colors can be arranged on request. If you have something specific in mind, message me and I'll get a quote from the framer.
