Description

Every era of Tokyo's history is present in this intricate drawing of the city. It centers on the busy historic Tokyo Station in the heart of the Marunouchi Business District. The skyscrapers contrast with the spacious parkland of the Imperial Palace to the west of the station as a royal procession leaves the gates. I've wanted to draw this station since 2018 and decided this technique did it justice! It was drawn in fineliner pen with a little pencil for texture.

多くの人で賑わう駅前広場、密集した高層ビルで埋め尽くされた空、丸の内エリアは活気で溢れています。私はこのエリア一体が、一枚の絵から飛び出しているような感覚で描きたいと思いました。逆に、皇居エリアは落ち着いた”静”の空間であり、賑やかな駅とは対照的に描くべきだと感じました。東京を散策している時、そしてこの絵を描いている時、こんなにも東京には歴史的建造物が多く残存しているのかと驚きました。戦争と高度経済成長期の時代に、一部の有名な歴史的建造物を除いて、古い東京の建物はほとんど失われたものだと思っていました。しかしよく見ると、街にはまだ様々な建物が残っており、一部の地域には戦前に建てられた木造の建築物も残っています。この作品の作成にあたって、2018年に自身で撮影した写真に加え、最新の空中写真と、インターネットフォーラムに投稿された丸の内エリアの新開発の写真を参考にしました。幸いにも、丸の内はランドマークである都市エリアということで、十分な素材や資料がありました。これにより、私は台北からこの作品を完成させることができました。

Canvas or Paper Print

This is a limited edition print (edition of 30 inclusive of both materials) which will be signed and numbered.

It is printed on archival grade matte canvas or paper that fully captures the detail and texture.

The print is a 78cm square. The canvas print has an allowance for wrapping around a canvas box frame.

These prints capture the closest representation of the original drawing right down to the shading and texture.
